Chamber Music Showcase planned for children

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Morning Etude Club presents a Chamber Music Showcase for young listeners on Feb. 23.

The concert begins at 1 p.m. in Shryock Auditorium on the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus. The performance is designed for school children from kindergarten through 12th grade. Tickets are $2 and may be purchased at the door.

Chamber music is, by definition, music meant for a small group of musicians, generally in a small, cozy venue. Audience members might think of it as an “unplugged” version of a symphony. Chamber music has classical roots, but new compositions are part of many chamber groups’ repertoires.

The Morning Etude Club sponsors several concerts each academic year, always with musical education as a goal.
