Job on campus/department you work in: Associate professor in the Mortuary Science and Funeral Service Program.

How long at SIUC: 14 years.

Hometown: Bicknell, Ind.

When you were a youngster, what did you want to be when you grew up? Fireman

People don’t know that: I taught fifth grade for two years.

What is something you still want to accomplish in life? To become a centenarian who can walk up two flights of stairs and complete a crossword puzzle.

What was the first “album” you ever bought, and was it an LP, 8-track or CD? 8-track of “Billion Dollar Babies” by Alice Cooper.

What is one random fact about you? I like to camp with my family.

Who has inspired you, and how? An undergrad professor who told me to start applying myself or she would make it her mission to get me dismissed from the program -- it was sort of a life reality check.

What is your pet peeve? Arrogance.

What would you like your gravestone to say about you? He made a difference.

Favorite cartoon character? Why? SpongeBob -- he is an eternal optimist.
