RSS honors Shannon Gwaltney, Nicole Hall
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Recreational Sports and Services is honoring Shannon Gwaltney of Hurst and Britney Nicole Hall of Murphysboro as the newest winners of the Student Employee of the Month honors.
Gwaltney is a clerical student worker for RSS and has worked in customer services for nearly a year and a half. Recently, her duties have expanded to include billing. Supervisors say she’s a quick learner and a great team player.
The daughter of Denis and Pam Gwaltney, Shannon is a sophomore with an undecided major. She said her plans include finishing her general coursework, choosing a major and planning a good career.
“Shannon has worked at the Rec Center for 1½ years and she has been a pleasure to work with. She is very dependable, reliable and confident hard worker in all she does. Shannon goes beyond the call of duty not just for reservations but also for anyone who needs help. She is well liked and respected by her peers and just a lot of fun to work with,” said Yvette Young, facilities/reservations supervisor for RSS.
Hall is a personal trainer and fitness floor leader at RSS. Employed there since March 2007, she is a graduate student with pending admission to the physician assistant program. She also has spent many hours as a volunteer helping with the Ultimate Saluki Challenge. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s of science in communication disorders and sciences with a minor in psychology and a master’s of accountancy with specialization in auditing.
The daughter of Tom and Terri Hall, Britney is interested in a career in medicine either dealing with trauma, sports medicine or pediatrics. She plans to become a physician assistant and practice in emergency medicine in a rural, underserved area.
“Britney is an exceptional employee. She is a dedicated professional who is an example to all who work with her. Her positive enthusiasm is contagious and her clients continually express their satisfaction in working with her. Britney is making a difference in the lives of many, whether as a co-worker or a trainer,” said Lynne Thompson-Cundiff, assistant director of fitness for RSS.
