Army ROTC hosting 5K run/walk on Saturday

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps is hosting a 5K run/walk around campus Saturday, Oct. 31.

The event begins at 9 a.m., and is open to all ages. The race fee is $15; entrants receive a goody bag and race T-shirt. The run/walk registration is available at the event.

The registration and starting line is at Kesnar Hall, 1125 Douglas Drive.

Media Advisory

Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome to cover the event. SIUC U.S. Army ROTC staff members will be available for interviews beginning at 8 a.m. at Kesnar Hall. For more information, contact Capt. Jonathan A. Cape at 618/453-7563.

Proceeds from the event go to the Cadet registered student organization, which allows cadets to promote ROTC on campus through different activities. It also helps defray the costs of off-campus events that cadets plan throughout the year, said Illinois Army National Guard Capt. Jonathan A. Cape, an SIU Army ROTC enrollment officer. Cadets plan to use some of the proceeds from this event to participate in a high ropes confidence course next semester as part of a team-building exercise, he said.
