The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Department of Public Safety is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Wednesday, Oct. 28, near Lawson Hall.
The armed robbery occurred between 8:45 and 8:50 p.m. A 22-year-old male SIUC student told police he was walking between Lawson Hall and Life Science II to his car when he was pushed to the ground from behind.
The victim told police that a suspect put a gun in his face and demanded the victim’s money. The victim threw his wallet, cell phone, and keys on the ground. The suspect picked up the wallet and cell phone, and told the victim to turn around and start walking west toward the parking lot.
The victim told police he walked about 20 yards and heard people talking outside of Lawson Hall. The victim ran over to those people and contacted police.
The victim was not injured.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with slim build and light skin. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark purple mask.

Police advise members of the campus community to use Saluki Express, Night Safety Transit Service and the Brightway Path when traveling at night. In addition, emergency call phones are located across campus, including on both overpasses.
