‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ coming to SIUC

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- It’s not just a movie -- not just a cult classic. “Rocky Horror Picture Show” is a fantasy experience and it is coming to Southern Illinois University Carbondale Halloween weekend.

The Student Programming Council Film Committee is sponsoring midnight shows on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31 in Ballroom B at the SIUC Student Center. Admission is $3 with a valid student ID or $4 for the general public.

This campy 1975 film features Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick as newlyweds Brad and Janet, stranded on a stormy night by car trouble at the castle of zany transvestite Dr. Frank-N-Furter. It’s a wild tale, a comedic horror parody set to a classic rock score. Huge crowds have flocked to theaters for more than three decades, with those attending often taking on one role or another from the unique science fiction-style show.

The SIUC shows won’t disappoint either. Audience participation is encouraged and the Student Programming Council will even be selling prop bags at the door for $3. Please don’t bring hot dogs or squirt guns though.
