CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Golfers and would-be golfers can spend a day on the links and help a unique program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale at the same time.

The annual SIUC Paralegal Studies Program Fundraising Golf Scramble is Oct. 3 at the Union County Country Club.

Entry fees are $220 for a team of four, or $55 per person. There is space for 18 teams of four. Register ahead by calling 618/453-1230. Registration forms on available on Fliers Row on the Saluki Times homepage at news.siuc.edu.

Those who want to support the program but prefer to skip the greens can take advantage of several sponsorship opportunities: $300 sponsors a team and a hole, $220 sponsors a team and $100 sponsors a hole.

SIUC boasts the only four-year paralegal program in Illinois recognized by the American Bar Association. Carolyn Smoot, director of the program, noted that paralegal studies graduates not only find jobs, but in many more places than only law or government offices.

The golf scramble pays for scholarships and student activities.
