Eighth annual Noche de Gala is Sept. 25

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The eighth annual Noche de Gala, a night of dancing and great music at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, is set for Friday, Sept. 25.

The events runs from 8 to 11 p.m. in the Student Center Ballrooms, and doors will open at 7 p.m. Admission is free but attire is semi-formal.

Last year’s Noche de Gala drew more than 600 participants and organizers anticipate an even bigger crowd this year. Sigma Lambda Beta and Special Programs and Center Events (SPACE) are co-sponsors.

Afraid your dance skills are a little rusty? Not to worry. The guys from Sigma Lambda Beta are even offering free dance lessons Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Ballroom D at the Student Center. They’ll help beginners learn the steps and it’s also a chance for the more experienced dancers to brush up on their technique a bit.

Noche de Gala is among the dozens of interesting, entertaining events during Latino Heritage Month at SIUC.
