Marion Kleinau Theatre hosts performance

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The performance art season kicks off at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Marion Kleinau Theatre with “Cybernetic Fruit: A Posthuman Fairytale.”

The performance runs Sept. 24-26, with shows at 8 p.m. Tickets are $7 for general admission, $5 for students.

The performance, written by the CF Collective and directed by Nico Wood and Shauna MacDonald, explores “life in a fantastic technological world where magic still holds power.”

MacDonald describes the nine-person show as one in which “mythology and mechanics intertwine.” The heroine, Red, investigates notions of language, beauty and perfection, MacDonald said, noting that the performance started as “an idea for a feminist fairytale” but then expanded to its present form, cyborgs and all.

The Marion Kleinau Theatre is on the second floor of the Communications Building. Tickets are available at the door, or in advance by calling 618/453-5618.
