Classic Vinyl & Media Sale set for Saturday
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Have you been searching for a few timeless vinyl records, classic movies, or even a vintage turntable?
If so, mark your calendar to attend the Classic Vinyl & Media Sale on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the University Mall in Carbondale. The sale is from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is in the location next to Hot Topic in the mall.
The Southern Illinois Radio Information Service (SIRIS) and WSIU Public Radio, a public broadcasting division of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, are hosting the sale, with the support of the University Mall.
From world music to classical, rock to R & B, country to soul, reggae to folk, children's music to comedy, shoppers can expect to find record albums from a broad range of musical genres. Collectible albums will be featured in a special section and will be priced accordingly; other albums are priced at $1 each. Additional items for sale include CDs, DVDs, tapes, 78s, novelty albums, books on tape, and stereo equipment, including turntables, tuners, and speakers. CDs are just $2, and DVDs are priced at $3 each. Prices are below $1 for other items, and buyers will find excellent deals throughout the event.
Volunteers are needed to sort records from 5 to 7 p.m. today (Sept. 10), and Friday, Sept. 11. Volunteers are also needed Sunday, Sept. 13, to clean up and box leftover merchandise. Volunteers who work four hours are invited to a sneak preview on Friday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. to make early bird purchases.
The sale is in support of SIRIS, WSIU Public Radio's broadcast service for individuals who are blind, visually impaired or are physically unable to read print material. SIRIS programming is broadcast to nearly 1,000 residents across Southern Illinois via a closed-circuit sideband channel of WSIU Public Radio's main signal. Special radio receivers are provided free of charge to qualified users. Broadcasts feature regional and national newspapers and magazines, book reviews, art news, and more, all read by volunteers. Anyone interested in learning how to apply should call SIRIS at 453-2808. SIRIS is a service of WSIU Public Radio and SIUC, and is also supported by the United Way.
WSIU Public Broadcasting is licensed to the SIU Board of Trustees and is an integral part of the College of Mass Communication & Media Arts on the Carbondale campus. It operates three digital public television channels, three public radio stations, a Web site, local TV and FM production units, and an education and community outreach department -- reaching more than three million people across five states and beyond.
