Ten questions with ... Sara Long Roth

Job on campus/department you work in: Professor; Animal Science, Food & Nutrition

How long at SIUC: Twenty years…gad, I never thought I’d be anywhere for 20 years! I didn’t feel old until I got my gold parking sticker last year.

Hometown: Johnston City, Ill.

When you were a youngster, what did you want to be when you grew up? An astronaut…. I got laughed at a lot since women were just beginning to be accepted into medical schools and law schools, so astronaut was too far out there (pun intended) for most folks in the small town where I grew up.

People don’t know that you…rescue salukis.

If you could choose another profession, what would it be and why? Archaeologist…..because ancient civilizations (Egyptian and Mayan) have always fascinated me…..or author (of mystery novels)…because reading novels was how I entertained myself growing up.

What is something you still want to accomplish in life? To stay healthy until I die.

What was the first “album” you ever bought, and was it an LP, 8-track or CD? I can remember it was an LP, but I can’t remember who the artist was…..my guess is Herman’s Hermits…how’s that for cool?

If you could pick an actor/actress to play you in a movie, who would you pick and why? Bette Midler…she’s funny and I wish I could sing like her.

What is one random fact about you? I’m ambidextrous.

Cats or dogs? Dogs! We have six salukis and one miniature dachshund who thinks he’s a saluki.

What is your favorite food and why? Pagliai’s pizza….with the thick and chewy crust…..it’s the crust!

Favorite cartoon character? Why? Pepe LePew…he never takes “no” for an answer, and he has a great accent.
