Student employees honored for effort, service
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Recreational Sports and Services at Southern Illinois University Carbondale has announced the 2009 employees of the summer.
Earning the honor are Erica Jackson of Chicago and Emily Haney of Springfield.
Jackson, a senior kinesiology major, began working for RSS earlier this year in the Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation program. The daughter of Chris and Gloria Jackson, she plans to complete her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at SIUC and then continue her education in physical therapy in Georgia or New York. Her goal is to become a physical therapist and own her own clinic.
“Erica just joined our Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation Staff this summer and has already made a huge impact,” said Kathy Hollister, RSS assistant director of special populations. “Her positive energy is contagious. She’s always ready with a smile and an encouraging word and her fitness partners have made great headway in achieving personal goals. They have learned she is a taskmaster with a mission to help them reach their fullest potential. Helping each partner push to a higher level physically has left them wanting more as they realize the benefits. I appreciate her work ethic and strength of character and am very pleased she is a member of the staff.”
Haney, a senior communication design major, has worked for a few months at RSS as a graphic designer in the marketing department. The daughter of Dave and Cathy Haney, she anticipates a spring 2010 graduation with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. Her goal is to secure employment in the graphic design industry.
“Emily started just a few months ago and has been one of the most productive artists in such a short amount of time of employment,” said Gary Tisdale, assistant director of publicity and marketing for RSS. “Her high level of quality work and her positive attitude have made her a great asset to our department and office. Holding two jobs and going to school, she still meets deadlines on her many projects.”
Recreational Sports and Services presents the employee of the summer awards in recognition of outstanding effort and service.
