Free ‘Noon Tunes’ concerts start Thursday

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- What makes any lunch taste better? Eating it to the sounds of Noon Tunes at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, of course.

Once a month, beginning Thursday, Aug. 27, Special Programs and Center Events (SPACE) hosts a free concert at the University’s Student Center Roman Room. Bring your lunch or grab a bite from the many restaurants inside the Student Center and kick back and enjoy great music from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Here’s the concert schedule:

• Thursday, Aug. 27 -- Ivas John Blues Band, blues. This concert is during the Student Center’s all-day open house that features activities, giveaways, contests and more. • Sept. 24 -- Sam West Trio, a fusion of jazz, funk and rock.

• Oct. 22 -- SIUC Jazz Ensemble, big band jazz.

• Nov. 19 -- Kevin Lucas Orchestra, art rock progressive new wave.
