Language studies opportunities available this fall

by Ashley McRaven

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The ability to communicate in a foreign language, whether for business, travel or just for fun, can be both enjoyable and rewarding.

The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Division of Continuing Education is again during the fall 2009 semester offering Self-Instructional Language Studies for individuals who wish to improve their proficiency in a foreign language. This year participants will have the opportunity to learn how to communicate in Japanese as well as in Chinese, German, Spanish and French.

This self-paced, self-instructional learning opportunity is available in Faner Hall’s Language Media Center. All participants have access to multi-media computers, audio and video materials, international cable television, foreign news broadcasts and closed-caption television to enhance their studies.

You can take the course year-round with individual meeting times arranged during lab hours. Registration is $45 per semester.

To register or learn more about Self-Instructional Language Study, contact the Division of Continuing Education at 618/536-7751 or visit the Web site at https://www.dce.siu.edu.
