Campus Safety Alert Southern Illinois University Carbondale July 20, 2009
The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Department of Public Safety is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Thursday, July 16, near Wheeler Hall during the Sunset Concert. The robbery occurred between 8 and 9 p.m. The incident was reported to police on Friday, July 17.
A 21-year-old SIUC student told police she was near Wheeler Hall when a man approached her, grabbed her left upper arm, and said, “Give me your money, I have a gun.” The man took $250 and a diamond necklace, and ran behind Wheeler Hall.
No gun was displayed, police said. The victim was not injured.
The suspect is described as a black male, between 18 and 20 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a slim build. He was wearing a shirt, baggy jeans and had dreadlocks.

Police advise members of the campus community to use Saluki Express, Night Safety Transit Service and Brightway Path when traveling at night. In addition, emergency call phones are located across campus, including on both overpasses.
