SIUC students join academic honor society
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Carbondale chapter of the National Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society recently awarded membership in the elite academic honors organization to a number of SIUC students.
Founded in 1924 and now boasting more than 250 U.S. chapters, Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society encouraging academic excellence for first-year students. Full-time first-year students with a 3.5 or higher GPA attending a four-year university or college are eligible for membership. More than 700,000 students earned the opportunity for society initiation since its founding.
Alpha Lambda Delta places an emphasis on tolerance when dealing with all peoples, generosity toward those in need and concern for the feelings of others, according to Glenda Earwood, the society’s executive director. She the organization challenges member to make “a meaningful contribution to society.”
The SIUC chapter, a registered student organization, dates to 1956.
