Business college to offer online master’s programs

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Sure, you’ve always wanted to complete your master’s degree in business or accounting but with a full-time job, finding the time has been difficult. Southern Illinois University Carbondale is now offering a great opportunity to make it happen.

Beginning with the fall 2009 semester, the SIUC College of Business is offering online programs allowing individuals to earn their MBA or their Master of Accountancy degree on the Internet.

“This is a great convenience for those wanting to complete their MBA or Master of Accountancy degree. It’s designed for working professionals so they can obtain their master’s without putting their career on hold,” said Meredith A. Rhoads, chief marketing officer for the College of Business.

Both are two-year programs. The coursework is a combination of videos, audio lectures and other online presentations and materials. Utilizing an online chat feature, students will be able to interact with faculty and other students as well. The classes are set up as learning modules with a specific amount of time allowed for completion of each module.

To be eligible for either master’s program, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and take the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

“Our online master’s programs will give students the convenience of leaning at their own pace from the same world-class faculty who teach our traditional programs in an equally rigorous, technologically advanced learning environment,” said J. Dennis Cradit, dean of the College of Business.
