Scholarships awarded to psychology students

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Several students in the Department of Psychology claimed scholarships at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. 

Tara Webb of Carbondale earned the Gordon F. Pitz Award, presented annually for the best psychology honors project.  Webb’s thesis was “Delay Discounting in a Video Game Task.”

Four graduating seniors received the James H. McHose Senior Award, which goes to seniors based on outstanding academic performance.  The recipients are: Catrina Bowen (Farina), Jessica Laughery (Decatur), Lacinda Trusty (Mt. Carmel) and Jessica Young (Spring Branch, Texas).  Emanuel J. Vondran (Zion) received the Psychology Honor Student Award, another senior award based on collegiate achievement.

The Department of Psychology also recognizes upperclassmen who demonstrate leadership skills through citizenship and service.  The Robert C. Radtke Leadership Award went to Laura Sullivan (Sullivan) and Jinyu Xu (Carbondale).  Jessica Laughery, who also earned a McHose Award, also received a Radtke Leadership Award.
