Sociology students win awards, scholarships
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Several sociology students are recipients of awards and scholarships at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Rebecca Shirley (Murphysboro) earned the Louis and Monica Petroff Memorial Scholarship, given to an outstanding student in either sociology or English.
Two students received Outstanding Honors in Sociology Awards. The award goes to outstanding seniors majoring in sociology. The students are: Sydney E. Clark (Evanston) and Nathaniel L. Forer (Carbondale).
In addition, several students received the departmental Dr. Willie Perarson Jr. Academic Excellence in Sociology Awards. Recipients are: Kelsey E. Fitzpatrick (Chicago), Natalie M. Henschen (Alhambra), Kaylee Nunamaker (Effingham) and Sarah R. Pictcher (Anna).
The College of Liberal Arts is holding two commencement ceremonies this weekend. Graduating sociology students attend the ceremony at 5 p.m., Sunday, May 10, in the SIU Arena.
