CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Several area students are among those earning departmental scholarships and awards from the Department of English at Southern Illinois University Carbondale during the 2008-2009 academic year.

Katrina Kosma (Dowell), earned the Carl Lutes English Outstanding Graduating Senior Award, an annual award based partly on financial need and partly on academic ability and leadership potential. She also earned a Thelma Louise Kellogg Scholarship, which is presented to an outstanding graduating senior.

Other recipients of the Thelma Louise Kellogg Scholarship are Callissa Harris (Marion), Amy McKenzie (Marion) and Natalie McLean (Anna).

Rebecca McCarthy, a graduate student from Chicago, earned the William Lewis Farmer Memorial Scholarship. The award goes to a student who “has demonstrated courage or effort in seeking a University degree.”
