Tennis camps, academies planned at SIUC

by Ashley McRaven

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Division of Continuing Education will offer four tennis camps and academies this summer. The camps for different age groups are for youths entering third through 12th grades who want to build their knowledge and skills on the court.

Participants will train with visualization techniques and for mental toughness while training on footwork and tennis-specialized conditioning. The camps also provide a video analysis of each participant’s strokes, match analysis and strategy and single and double match play. All participants will receive a written evaluation at the completion of camp. Resident campers will also enjoy evening activities with camp instructors.

Top college players will assist SIUC's head men’s and women’s tennis coaches, Dann Nelson and Audra Nothwehr, with the 2009 camp season.

Tennis Camp I is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. daily, June 8-11. It’s for players entering third through 12th grades. Registration for this commuters-only camp is $195 before May 25 or $220 for registrations received after that deadline.
