Students win economics scholarships, awards
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Department of Economics at Southern Illinois University Carbondale awarded scholarships and awards to a number of students beginning or continuing their study of economics.
Jonathan Kipling Richardson from Peoria, earned the Garrett E. and Susan J. Pierce Endowed Scholarship, an award given annually to an outstanding senior majoring in economics with an interest in accounting or manufacturing.
The Glenn W. and Cornelia Y. Miller Endowed Scholarship, an award given to a junior or senior, or a graduate student, went to senior Brett Tyler Adkins from Somonauk. The award is for an economics or public policy major with an interest in labor economics, social insurance, Workman’s Compensation and/or unemployment policy.
The Outstanding Achievement in Economics award went to Isabel Greve Madeira from Carbondale, and the Outstanding Junior Award in the Department of Economics went to Andrew Isaac Jones from Whittington.
Eva Palhegyi, from Carterville, received a year’s subscription to the Wall Street Journal as part of the Wall Street Journal Award, given annually to an outstanding senior.
The department awards Thomas and Chany Chung Endowed Scholarship awards to all new and continuing economics majors who meet the award requirements. Sixty-five students earned those scholarships.
