Some 125 public school teachers and administrators from 35 schools in 30 districts will converge on the Carbondale Civic Center, 200 S. Illinois Ave., between 1 and 3:15 p.m. Friday, April 24, to talk with education faculty members and officials from Southern Illinois University Carbondale about what’s right with teacher preparation and how it could improve.

Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend.

“It’s an opportunity for schools not only to review our program but to share with us what needs they have,” said Jan E. Waggoner, director of teacher education for SIUC’s College of Education and Human Services.

“We also have needs for our students -- to have them placed with effective, cooperative teachers, for instance, who will work with us on any issues that might arise.

“It’s the collaboration that’s important -- that we work in tandem with area schools to meet our mutual needs.”

Waggoner, Dean Kenneth Teitelbaum, Associate Dean W. Bradley Colwell, program coordinators and field supervisors will attend. The group also will discuss trends in education and innovations in teacher preparation.
