Housing to honor faculty, staff for assistance
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s University Housing will host the Faculty and University Associate Recognition Breakfast on Friday, April 24.The event runs from 8 to 9:15 a.m. in Lentz Hall Dining Room 2. University Housing will honor the 82 faculty and staff who serve as residence hall associates. Each has a specific floor or building assignment where they help throughout the year, beginning on move-in day in August. They assist with programs and social activities and sometimes just dine with students or hang out with them. The breakfast recognizes the time, commitment and involvement of these volunteers.
Six faculty and university associates will receive plaques recognizing them for devoting 10 years of service. Plaques will go to: David A. NewMyer, chair of the aviation management and flight department; Bruce C. Chrisman, coordinator in the engineering college; Linda L. Benz, assistant director of the Institutional Research and Studies; Marcus D. Odom, director of the accounting school; Jack S. Greer, chair of the automotive technology department; and Paulette Curkin, recently retired director of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center.
The Black Togetherness Organization presents “edutertainment” programs on Tuesday evenings at Grinnell Hall and 39 faculty and staff members who have been involved in the organization are among those the breakfast will honor. Other recognized will be those who bring the Tunnel of Oppression, Black Male Roundtables and other events to University Housing in conjunction with helping or mentoring students.
The goal of University Housing is recruiting faculty or staff members for every floor of each residence hall and continuing to involve faculty and staff in presenting programs at the various campus residence halls.
