CARBONDALE -- About 400 students will flood the campus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale next week as the University plays host to the annual Illinois Junior Academy of Science fair.
Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome to cover the event from 1 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, at the SIUC Student Center. For more information, contact Kathy Pericak-Spector at 618/453-6573 or at email@example.com.
The event will feature project displays in 18 categories, ranging from aerospace to behavioral sciences to health sciences and zoology. More than 150 SIUC faculty and graduate students from the colleges of education and human services, engineering, liberal arts, science, and the SIU School of Medicine volunteer as judges during the event.
Students and their sponsors from schools from throughout the region will participate. The event teaches students how to professionally conduct and present research.
Judging is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the awards presentation starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Student Center Auditorium. Several thousand dollars in prize money is up for grabs.
Judges will select about 60 projects to advance to the state competition, set for early May in Champaign-Urbana.
