by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- There’s still time to make progress on your goal of getting healthier in 2009. The 8th Annual Health and Nutrition Fair at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on March 19 is just the place to find out how.

“Go Green: Start with Veggies” is the theme of University Housing’s event, set for 4 to 6 p.m. March 19 in the lower level of Grinnell Hall. Displays created by numerous exhibitors from SIUC and the Carbondale community will offer a wide assortment of health and nutrition information.

March is National Nutrition Month and in celebration of that, visitors to the nutrition fair can discover more about various aspects of health and wellness courtesy of such exhibitors as the Student Emergency Dental Service, Simple Spinal Health and Medical Center, the Wellness Center, food and nutrition classes and many more. You’ll find out about everything from stress management to nutrition, general and mental health to hearing screenings and smoking research and cessation. That’s just a small sampling.

Participants will find large and small prizes and freebies at the Health and Nutrition Fair too. The first 400 attending will get a free “Go Green: Start with Veggies” T-shirt. WCIL-FM radio will have a live remote from the site as well.

The 8th Annual Health and Nutrition Fair is free and everyone is welcome. For more information, contact Alyssa Rider, nutrition counselor and Residence Hall Dining graduate assistant, at 618/453-3788.
