Association to welcome former student-athletes
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The SIU Alumni Association will welcome Saluki women athletes who competed for SIU against teams from other schools prior to 1980 at a reception following the 3 p.m. SIU women’s basketball game against Drake on Saturday, Jan. 17th. Former female student-athletes will attend the reception at the Troutt-Wittmann Academic and Training Center as part of the weekend-long Celebrating SIU Women’s Athletics festivities honoring former female student-athletes and coaches. Information on additional weekend events can be found at http://siusalukis.cstv.com/ot/CelebrateWomensAthletics.html
The reception will honor attendees and offer an opportunity to network, reminisce and celebrate their accomplishments. “The Association is proud of the athletic and professional accomplishments of these women. We, along with Chancellor Samuel Goldman and Saluki Athletics, look forward to welcoming them back to campus and offering an opportunity to reconnect with the University and their former teammates,” SIU Alumni Association Executive Director Michelle Suarez stated.
"We're honored to be able to bring these women back to campus after all these years to celebrate their contributions as student-athletes representing Southern Illinois University. We appreciate the Association hosting the reception and offering another opportunity for attendees to gather," Associate Athletic Director Kathy Jones said.
Celebration attendees will be recognized during halftime at the women’s and men’s basketball games that weekend.
