Public gets to choose coloring contest winners

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Friends of Southern Illinois University Carbondale have the power to bestow a pizza party on an area school’s classroom. All it takes is votes.

Kindergarten through third grade students in Jackson and Williamson counties need your votes to win a coloring contest. Here’s how the contest works: The crew behind www.iheartsiu.com at SIUC handed out Saluki pennants for the kids to color. Each school chooses classroom winners. Each classroom winner receives two tickets to the Feb. 7 basketball game pitting the Saluki women against the University of Northern Iowa Panthers.

Then, each school chooses a winner at the grade level. The winner from each grade per school will appear on the www.iheartsiu.com Web site. And then it’s up to you.

Your votes will determine four winners per county, one for each grade level. The winners receive pizza parties for their classrooms, tickets to an upcoming Saluki women’s basketball game and their names announced at the basketball game.

To vote, visit www.iheartsiu.com and follow the links to the coloring contest. Voting closes Jan. 28.
