RSS honors student employees of the month
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Douglas Gregory “Doug” Allen and Phyllis Abigail “Abbi” Allen are the newest Student Employee of the Month honorees for Recreational Sports and Services (RSS) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Doug, a senior from Galatia, earned the honors for facilities, while programs honored Abbi, a sophomore from Jerseyville. The awards are for November.
Abbi is a three-month employee in the intramural sports office. A speech communication major, she plans a career in public relations. She is the daughter of Mike and Debby Allen.
“Abbi has continually worked hard for intramural sports and since being hired has begun her officiating career in volleyball,” said Shane M. Bennett, assistant director for Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs at RSS. “Next semester will start her tenure as an intramural sports supervisor. She is a very detail-oriented, hard-working and reliable young woman. She comes to work each day with a smile on her face and is willing to do whatever job needs to be completed.”
Since May, Doug has worked in customer and employee services for RSS. An accounting major, he plans to go to graduate school, specializing in tax accounting and then seek a job in the field in the St. Louis area. He is the son of Darryl and Cindy Allen.
“In just a short time here, Doug has proven to be a great asset,” said Dee Donaldson, office administrator for RSS. She said that he does “double duty” working with program registrations and in the business office, and “he is dependable, reliable and always ready to step in wherever needed. His smile and attitude are assets for customer service and also infectious with the rest of the staff.”
The RSS employee of the month awards recognize student employees for outstanding effort and service.
