Panel discussion to examine Student Conduct Code

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A panel discussion later this week at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will examine the University’s Student Conduct Code.

The forum is at 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, in the Hiram H. Lesar Law Building, room 204. Admission is free, and the forum is open to the public.

Recently approved changes to the Student Conduct Code prompted the panel discussion, law school professor Leonard Gross said.

“I believe that the panel discussion will help students understand how the disciplinary system works,” he said. “We will also discuss whether there are any remaining problems with the system.”

Forum speakers are Terry G. Huffman, director, SIUC Student Judicial Affairs; Rich Fedder, a civil rights attorney in Carbondale; and Jessica L. Bustos, an SIUC graduate student in history.

The forum sponsors are the Southern Illinois chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union and the SIU School of Law.
