SIUC to host ‘Science in the South’ workshop

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale is offering “Science in the South,” a professional development workshop for K-12 teachers and administrators interested in the fields of science or agriculture. The workshop is Jan. 30, 2009, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Student Center.

The fun-filled science day includes hands-on activities, networking, sharing, activity-oriented workshops, make-and-takes, technology, exhibits and much more. Dozens of workshops for every level and topic area are available.

Educators may present on any science-related topic of interest to K-12 science teachers, with hands-on and activity-oriented presentations preferred. Each presenter gets a complimentary conference registration and lunch. In addition, science-related, technology-oriented commercial and non-commercial companies and organizations are welcome to present exhibits at the event.

The registration fee for Science in the South is $65 for participants registering before Dec. 23 or $80 for those registering after the early deadline. To register or for more information, contact the Division of Continuing Education at 618/536-7751 or visit the Web site at www.dce.siu.edu.

Science in the South participants may earn up to three Continuing Professional Development Units for attending and up to 14 units for presenting.
