Business college names Margolis to new post
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Donna Margolis, director of career services and placement at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s College of Business, has been named assistant dean of student affairs.
“I’m honored to be chosen for this role,” said Margolis. “My first priority has always been the students and I look forward to implementing initiatives that should tremendously improve the college experience for them.”
In the new role, Margolis will continue to serve as career services and placement director but will also oversee all aspects of undergraduate student services at the business college, including academic advisement, career services, enrollment management and minority affairs.
“Donna Margolis is a highly energetic and effective leader,” Dean J. Dennis Cradit said. “Under her leadership, business students will continue to receive premier student services and even more, Donna will take the college to the next level in terms of customer service.”
Margolis joined SIUC in 2000 as an academic adviser. In 2005, the University honored Margolis with the Excellence Through Commitment Award, given to faculty and staff whose dedication to academic excellence enhances the SIUC community. The College of Business honored Margolis with the Outstanding Service Award in 2003.
Margolis is the founding director of the business college's first placement center, which offers individualized career counseling and services.
Margolis also speaks to classes, coaches students, develops relationships with firms and recruiters, manages the intern and extern programs and oversees several business classes.
Margolis is a two-degree graduate of SIUC, earning both bachelor's and master’s degrees in accounting from the College of Business. She is Myers-Briggs qualified.
After graduation from SIUC, Margolis worked in public accounting at PricewaterhouseCoopers in St. Louis, and Ernst & Young in San Francisco and Newport Beach, Calif.
