Aviation alumni to gather in Wheeling

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A gathering of alumni from Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s acclaimed aviation programs is set for later this week in Wheeling.

The program begins at 6:45 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19, in the Priester Aviation hangers at Palwaukee Airport, 1061 S. Wolf Road. The event is free.

This is the third annual aviation alumni event. About 100 alumni attended last year’s event. David A NewMyer, chair of the University’s Department of Aviation Management and Flight, anticipates the about the same number of alumni will attend this year.

The function provides a chance for SIUC aviation alumni to meet and remain connected with the University. The event is for alumni of aviation management, aviation flight, and aviation technologies. All three programs are in the University’s College of Applied Sciences and Arts.

“We want to bring everybody back to an aviation setting at the airport,” NewMyer said.

The speakers include SIUC Interim Chancellor Samuel Goldman and Charles Priester, chairman and CEO of Priester Aviation
