Southern Illinois University Carbondale police are investigating a strong-arm robbery that occurred at 2:04 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 24, in the area of Lincoln Drive and Travel Service Drive, east of the Student Center.

An 18-year-old SIUC student told police he was walking when one of possibly three suspects approached him and asked directions to a nearby restaurant. As a second suspect approached the victim from behind, the first suspect demanded the victim’s wallet and cellular telephone. The second suspect put the victim in a headlock and began choking him.

The suspects took the victim’s wallet and cell phone. They got into a gray or silver Dodge Intrepid and drove east, police said.

The victim received scrapes on his hands, legs, face and behind his ears. He did not require medical attention.

The three suspects are black males. The first suspect is described as over six feet tall, wearing a plain red shirt with short cut hair. The second suspect has the same physical description and possibly was wearing a dark shirt.

A description was not available on the person driving the car.
