Seminar for dental professionals is Oct. 10

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Dental Hygiene Program is sponsoring a one-day seminar for dental professionals Oct. 10. The seminar will focus on the comprehensive patient care approach to periodontal therapy and the many nuances associated with oral and systemic disease. It will include an in-depth look at microbiological challenges in today’s world along with immunological considerations.

Featured presenter Betsy Reynolds, an oral biologist and registered dental hygienist, presents scientifically based dental hygiene continuing education programs nationally and internationally and she’s published numerous articles and book chapters. Her expertise covers such diverse topics as the biologic basis for oral and systemic disease prevention, microbiological and immunological aspects of oral disease, the implications of stress on oral and systemic health, oral pathological concerns, oral piercing and body modification considerations in delivering care, head and neck anatomy and scientific developments affecting delivery of oral health care.

The conference runs from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Oct. 10 at the SIUC Student Center Auditorium. The cost is $100 for professionals, $80 for current American Dental Hygienists’ Association members and $40 for full-time SIUC dental hygiene students and 2008 SIUC dental hygiene program graduates.
