Young entrepreneurs face off in ‘Muffin Madness’

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Much like the up-and-coming entrepreneur hopefuls on television’s “The Apprentice” with Donald Trump, a group of young entrepreneurs of the future will test their business mettle Thursday, July 17, at “Muffin Madness” and you can watch the drama unfold.

That morning, from 7 until 10, teams of teens will be working to pack Cristaudo’s Restaurant in the Murdale Shopping Center with customers -- but not just any customers. They’re on a mission to sell some very special breakfast muffins.

Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome to cover the Muffin Madness Entrepreneurship Challenge, 7-10 a.m., Thursday, July 17, at Cristaudo’s Restaurant located in the Murdale Shopping Center in Carbondale.

Each team has created its very own muffin recipe and worked this week to create a business plan and market their product in the community. It’s all part of the 2008 Camp CEO entrepreneurship challenge. The Southern Illinois University entrepreneurship centers in Carbondale and Centralia jointly sponsor the camp for young aspiring business leaders. The goal of the camp participants on that morning will be to outsell the other teams and win the Muffin Madness challenge.
