Media Advisory -- Student Research Symposium

Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome to cover a research symposium by students this week at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The McNair/ILSAMP Scholars Research Symposium is set for 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 11, in the auditorium (room 1059) in the Life Science III building. The event will feature presentations by students participating in the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program and the Illinois Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation.

The students are participating in the Summer Research Institute, an eight-week program aimed at sharpening research and communication skills they will need as researchers. Among the topics are “Assessment of College Students’ Food Choices when Comparing Their Home Choices to the College Campus Choices,” “A History of Swimming Pools 1949-1975: How Racism has Impacted Municipal Space,” and “Examining Consumer Perceptions of Saluki Athletics.”
