Media Advisory -- Broadcast News Camp

Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Department of Radio and Television is hosting 13 students from the Chicago area in a weeklong television news camp.

Students are receiving a basic look into the intricacies of television and broadcast news operations from faculty members Jim Gee, Joey Helleny and Eileen Waldron. The activities include reporting, news writing, and shooting and editing video.

Reporters and photographers are welcome to cover the students’ efforts as they write and edit their work in WSIU-TV’s newsroom from 2 to 4 p.m., Thursday, June 26. The working media is also welcome to cover the students presenting their stories in live-to-tape newscasts from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at WSIU-TV.

This is the second year for the camp. A second group of high school students will attend the camp July 7-11.
