Student Center TVs tuned to Euro2008 games

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Union of European Football Associations’ Euro2008 Championships are wildly popular internationally, and the Student Center at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is making sure the SIUC community can watch the games all month long.

In response to requests from international students for viewing options, the Student Center has moved the large flat screen television from the first floor TV Lounge, now closed for construction, to the second floor’s International Lounge, and it’ll be tuned to the Euro2008 games. Posted in the lounge is the complete schedule for one of the world’s largest sporting events. In addition, viewers can enjoy the games on flat screen televisions in the bowling area Monday through Friday each week in June.

The UEFA Euro2008 games, hosted by Austria and Switzerland, run through June 29 with teams from all over Europe and Asia participating. Organizers estimate more than eight billion viewers will take in the televised games. Whenever the Student Center is open, spectators can watch every match broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic and ABC.
