Radio-television students win scholarships

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale recently presented scholarships to 14 outstanding students in the Department of Radio-Television.

Here is a list of scholarship winners, by hometown. Where available, the listing contains the winner's name, year in school, major, scholarship name and the amount.

Illinois

Bartlett: Robyn B. Lovecchio, sophomore, radio-television. Marmaduke Scholar, 2008-2009, $3,000. Named in honor of the late Virginia Marmaduke, the award goes to outstanding students in radio-television and journalism who have strong academic backgrounds and demonstrate talent within their department.

Bloomington: Stacy A. Suhadolc, sophomore, radio-television. Marmaduke Scholar, 2008-2009, $3,000. Named in honor of the late Virginia Marmaduke, the award goes to outstanding students in radio-television and journalism who have strong academic backgrounds and demonstrate talent within their department.

Carol Stream: John D. Elder, junior, radio-television. Marmaduke Scholar, 2008-2009, $3,000. Named in honor of the late Virginia Marmaduke, the award goes to outstanding students in radio-television and journalism who have strong academic backgrounds and demonstrate talent within their department.

Danville: Jennifer L. Ward, junior, radio-television. Scarpelli Endowment for Academic Excellence. Awarded to a student in radio-television who demonstrates academic excellence.

East St. Louis: Jasmin M. Thurston, senior, radio-television. Bob Ramsey Scholarship. Awarded to a student in radio-television who demonstrates academic excellence.

Emington: Kahla R. Holtz-Fazzini, senior, radio-television. Marshall L. Berkman Scholarship. Awarded generally to a student in radio-television who has a primary focus in news.

Glen Ellyn: Kathy M. Stanish, senior, radio-television. Buren Robbins Scholarship. Awarded generally to a student in radio-television who has a primary focus in production.

Island Lake: Kyle T. Foremella, senior with degree, radio-television. Tommy Thaviu Radio/Television Scholarship. Awarded to a student who demonstrates "a real passion toward his/her involvement within the radio-television department and a career in the media industry."

Jerseysville: Ross M. Rowling, junior, radio-television. Illinois Broadcasters Association Scholarship Endowment. Awarded to a student in radio-television with an emphasis on broadcasting and rising senior standing.

Manteno: Elizabeth J. O'Neal, senior, radio-television. I. Martin Pompadur Scholarship. Awarded to a student in radio-television who may have a focus in news performance.

Pomona: Emily C. Jones, freshman, radio-television. Susan Schumake Memorial Scholarship. Awarded to an outstanding female student in radio-television in memory of former student Susan Schumake.

Richton Park: Raleshia C. Howard, junior, radio-television. Ralph E. Becker Scholarship. Awarded to a student in radio-television who has a primary focus in electronic media marketing and management.

Taylorville: Samantha J. Thomas, junior, radio-television. Frank Stanton Scholarship. Awarded to a student in radio-television who may have a primary focus in management and marketing research.

Highland: Dominique A. Johnson, senior, radio-television. Greg Forsythe Memorial Scholarship. Awarded to a student in radio-television who demonstrates academic excellence.
