High school students welcome at open houses

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- They don't call summer "Dog Days" for nothing.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites all would-be Salukis to Saluki Summer Days -- a campus visit outreach that offers five summer dates for those students in the market for higher education. Anyone who is going to be a high school student in the academic year 2008-2009 -- not just juniors and seniors -- is on the guest list.

Besides the usual components of a campus visit students might expect -- campus and housing tours, sample lecture, information about admissions procedures, financial aid options and scholarship opportunities -- the summer open houses offer another incentive for taking off from summer to consider school. Students who pre-register automatically enter a drawing for a 15-inch LCD-HDTV. Drawing winners must be present for the entire open house program to win.

Pre-registration is a requirement. Go to admissions.siu.edu/salukisummer for more information and to register. Registration by phone is possible at 618/453-7141.

Saluki Summer Days campus visit dates are: June 2, June 16, June 30, July 14 and July 28. All dates are Mondays. Registration closes a week before the visit date.
