Honor society names 187 students as new members
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The national honor society Alpha Lambda Delta recently initiated 187 students from Southern Illinois University Carbondale as new members.
Alpha Lambda Delta honors first year full-time students with a grade point average of at least 3.5 at a four-year college or university.
Glenda Earwood, executive director of the society emphasized that its members have a responsibility to "have tolerance in your dealings with all persons, generosity in giving to those in need, and insight into the feelings of others." She also challenged them to make a "meaningful contribution to society."
On April 12, the selected SIUC freshmen took an oath to maintain high scholarship and to use their education for the benefit of their community, nation and the world in which they live.
Alpha Lambda Delta, founded in 1924 at the University of Illinois, now has more than 250 chapters nationwide and has recognized more than 700,000 students in the past eight decades.
