by Gretchen Boggess

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- For kids who love baseball, there's no better way to spend part of summer vacation than attending Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Saluki Baseball Camp. The camp for youth ages seven to 13 is set for June 9-12.

Young ball players will come together to improve their hitting, fielding and pitching skills as they have fun playing the sport. The camp runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day at SIUC's Abe Martin Field.

The camp's staff is comprised of high school and college coaches with a typical player to coach ratio of approximately 10-1. Coaches will separate campers according to ability and age to assure maximum individualized instruction. The Saluki Baseball Camp provides instruction in hitting, bunting, base running, infield and outfield play and pitching. There's also help with playing specific positions on the field and supervised game activity.

If registering before May 30 the cost is $170 for an individual participant or the discount price of $150 per person for members of a registered team. After May 30, the cost is $15 higher. All camp participants receive a T-shirt and baseball cap.
