SIUC-association contract is now in place

by Tom Woolf

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A new two-year agreement is now in place between Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the Association of Civil Service Employees (ACsE).

Association members ratified the contract, which is retroactive to July 1, 2007, on Thursday, May 1.

Association members will receive a 3.5 percent across-the-board increase in the first year of the contract, and 3 percent in the second year. There also will be longevity increases for those who qualify in both years of the agreement.

Interim Chancellor Samuel Goldman commended negotiators for the association and the University for their professional approach in reaching a mutually acceptable contract.

"Our Civil Service employees play a vital role in our ability to realize the mission of the University," he said. "They earn our respect on a daily basis with their dedicated efforts."
