Media Advisory

Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome at the Department of Geography and Environmental Resources Awards Ceremony, Student Poster Session and Reception. Students and faculty are on hand for possible interviews. Typically, several posters include topics pertinent to Southern Illinois. In addition, Leslie Duram, department chair, announces scholarship and award winners, including the $500 David and Carol Christenson Award for Student Research in Sustainability for the best poster.

Geography students use posters to display research projects from such upper-division courses as Spatial Analysis, Advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography and Organic Farming and Field Methods in Weather and Water Resources. Posters typically include graphs and data analysis as well as research conclusions. This year, poster topics include "Illinois Local Food Initiatives" and "Policy Recommendations for Sustainable Land Use."

Other awards announced at the poster session will include the Geography Scholastic Achievement Award and the Pricilla Ann Moulton Award for graduating seniors.
