Campus Safety Alert

Southern Illinois University Carbondale police are investigating a robbery that occurred at 10:13 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, between Allen and Schneider residence halls.

A 19-year-old SIUC student told police he was walking on the sidewalk along Neely Drive between University Park and Brush towers when a dark green car stopped by him. Three men exited the car and approached the victim. Two of the suspects grabbed the victim’s arms while the third suspect went through the victim’s pockets and took cash. A fourth man, the driver, remained in the car. The other three suspects then returned to the car, which drove east on Neely Drive.

The victim was not injured.

One suspect is described as black, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing between 190 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a white and red ball cap with an unknown logo, a black hooded sweatshirt, and blue jeans.

The second suspect is described as black, approximately 6 feet tall, 200 to 220 pounds. He was wearing a black do-rag, and turquoise and black jacket.

The third suspect is described as black, approximately 6 feet tall, 190 to 200 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

The fourth subject was identified as black man. No further description was available, however, because he was driving and stayed in the car.

Police advise members of the campus community to use Saluki Express, Night Safety Transit Service and Brightway Path when traveling at night. In addition, emergency call phones are located across campus, including on both overpasses.
