Physician assistant student group hosts scramble

by Eric Welch

CARBONDALE, Ill. —The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Physician Assistant Student Organization will host its sixth annual golf scramble and raffle on Saturday, April 12.

The event is open to the public and anyone is welcome to participate, but teams need to register by April 1. Registration is $45 per person and $35 for students. The event will be at Hickory Ridge Golf Course, beginning with lunch at 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start for the scramble at 1 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will help the Physician Assistant Student Organization fund educational opportunities outside the classroom, such as conferences and clinics. The organization consists of students pursuing their master's degree in the physician assistant program. The students host blood drives and health screenings as well as help promote health maintenance in the community. A portion of the money raised will also be donated to The Women's Center in Carbondale.

In addition to the round of golf, lunch will be provided along with a T-shirt. There will also be a raffle for St. Louis Cardinals tickets, a baseball autographed by Chicago Cubs' pitcher Ted Lilly and several other prizes donated by Southern Illinois businesses.
