Concert choir to perform for young listeners

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Concert Choir presents a concert aimed at young listeners beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, at Shryock Auditorium.

The Carbondale Morning Etude Club sponsors the performance. In a different sort of ticket admission pricing, children pay $2 to hear the concert, but their accompanying adults attend for free.

The program includes some light numbers, including "The Fiddler Man" and "The Terrible Tale of Tom Gilligan." Choir Director Susan Davenport said the goal is to introduce many different kinds of music. With that goal in mind, she also included some Hebrew music, a spiritual and a Latin piece.

A group of bluegrass-playing faculty and students join the choir, and a do a few numbers on their own as well.

Tickets are available at the door.
