Symphonic band, wind ensemble present concert

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Symphonic Band and the SIUC Wind Ensemble present a joint concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, in Shryock Auditorium.

The band, conducted by Andrew L. Tucker, assistant director of bands and the director of the SIUC Marching Salukis, is a large band that non-music majors with previous performance experience may audition to join. Many music majors choose to join the symphonic band with their secondary instrument.

The band shares the bill with the Carnegie Hall-bound SIUC Wind Ensemble. Christopher Morehouse conducts the University's premier wind ensemble. This is one of several concerts the Wind Ensemble holds throughout the academic year. It will also present a Carnegie Hall preview concert on March 19.

Tickets for this concert are $7.50 for general admission, $5 for students. Tickets are available in advance at SIUC ticket offices at the SIU Arena or the SIUC Student Center in person or over the phone at 618/453-2000, or may be ordered from Ticketmaster online at www.siuc.edu/shryock. Tickets are also available the day of the performance at Shryock Auditorium.
