Association will host pre-game tailgate Saturday

by Kathy Dillard

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The SIU Alumni Association hosts a pre-game tailgate to get Saluki fans primed and ready to cheer on Southern Illinois University Carbondale in the semifinal game of the NCAA Football Subdivision Championship on Dec. 8.

This is the last home game for this season's football Dawgs. SIUC takes on the University of Delaware's Blue Hens. The winner of this game will play for the championship against the winner of the Appalachian State and Richmond match-up.

The tailgate begins at noon in the SIU Alumni Association space on Saluki Row, with game time at 3 p.m. Attendees enjoy food, music, Saluki trivia and, of course, the company of fellow Saluki fans. Catering is by 17th Street with beverages by Venigoni Distributing and Pepsi MidAmerica. Hosts throughout the season include Herrin Security Bank, Regions Bank, River Radio, The Southern Illinoisan newspaper and Tres Hombres Mexican Restaurant.

The SIU Alumni Association will also take pre-orders for "Good Night from Carbondale," the audio book CD chronicling some of the best moments from the past 30 years of SIUC football and basketball as broadcast by Mike "Voice of the Salukis" Reis. Proceeds from the CD sales support the Mike Reis Scholarship fund. The scholarship goes to select members of the 2008-2009 Dawg Pound. CD orders may be made online at www.siualumni.com.
